Sue holds a Diploma of Occupational Therapy (Dip.O.T.) conferred in 1974 and a post grad Diploma in Safety Science (PGDip.Safe.Sc) in 1988. In 1999 she was conferred a Master of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy with her research being the “Long term effects of splint wearing in Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and Occupational Overuse Syndrome”.
Sue has gained clinical experience in a variety of settings ranging from acute hospital settings to community reintegration units and rehabilitation providers. From 1981 to 1987 she was Occupational Therapist in Charge at St. George Hospital, Kogarah. In addition to managing a staff of 10 therapists she also provided a service to the Amputee Clinic and the Rheumatology Unit where she developed and ran the Arthritis Education Program. During her time at St. George Sue was the chairperson of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee for Southern Sydney Area Health Service. As part of her responsibilities she undertook safety audits of the hospital and community services and ran safety education programs for employees.
In 1987 Sue commenced part timework in the field of Occupational Health and Safety. She remains accredited as an occupational health and safety committee trainer by WorkCover as well as being an accredited trainer in RTW Coordination Course.
From 1990 to 1993 Sue was responsible for the provision of occupational therapy services on the Lidcombe Brain Injury Unit Community Team. This involved follow up of clients on discharge from the unit as well as providing a service to those who had been living in the community and required occupational therapy intervention.
Between 1993 and 2009 Sue has been working in Occupational Rehabilitation providing a service to injured persons in the Worker’s Compensation and CTP systems with Accent Rehabilitation. This involves both assisting those who have sustained a work related injury to return back to their pre-injury employment or to gain alternative new jobs with a new employer. Within the CTP system Sue provides a community based occupational therapy treatment program for clients.
From 2002 onwards Sue has been a key Occupational Therapy assessor for the Motor Accident Authority providing an opinion as to reasonable and necessary treatment, services and equipment. She has been a Review Assessor since 2007.
Within the Life Time Care Service, Sue is a Care Needs Assessor and has also gained qualifications as a FIM Assessor.
Currently Sue is working as a sub-contractor to various rehabilitation providers within the Workers Compensation and CTP systems undertaking functional assessments, occupational therapy treatment, case management as well as the provision of medicolegal opinion and MAA Determinations. With her own experience as a below knee amputee Sue has a wide base of skills to enable clients to do things that will enhance their ability to participate in their normal working, social, personal and domestic environment.
